BURGERKILL

Burgerkill was formed on May 1995, started by Eben, a scenester from Jakarta who moved to Bandung for his study. There, he met Ivan, Kimung, and Dadan who became his first line-up. This band began its career as a side project which didn't have any certain purposes, just a bunch of metal kids jamming their axe-hard while waiting an offering to perform a real one. But it didn't go that way in Eben's mind, he thought that this band was his life and he tried so hard to make Burgerkill worked and admitted in their communities. Since then, the band got many chances to perform, mostly in Jakarta, from Eben's friends there. That's when the enthusiasm of underground music lovers for Burgerkill started and, indirectly, a phenomenon of hard music was born in Indonesia.

The first form of this band was unsettled, many underground musicians had joined the band. But now, they've already find their solid line-up. In 1995, they only thought about performing, went home, practicing at studio, there's no anything else. But it all changed since they succeed to release their first single which became one of tracks in "Masaindahbangetsekalipisan" music compilation, an album of bands from Bandung in early 1997. Other names like Puppen, Full of Hate, and Cherry Bombshell were also compiled in the album. It was produced by Richard Mutter (ex-drummer of Pas Band). It really was a glorious moment for underground music. Everything is new and new things stoked people! Track from BurgerkillBurgerkill, Revolt! became an opening track in album that was sold 1000 pieces shortly.

These guys of Burgerkill started to enjoy recording process that made them couldn't stop working. At the end of 1997, they joined other compilation "Breathless" with enclosing their songs "Offered Sucks" and "My Self". In early 1998, their career continued by releasing single "Blank Proudness" which was included in "Independent Rebel", a Grindcore Ujungberung band compilation album. This compilation was released by major label and distributed widely in Indonesia and Malaysia. Burgerkill was going broadly in so many underground events since then. The antics went higher, number of their fans grew excessively and always waiting for their performances. Burgerkill the Hardcore Begundal!

At the same year, the band released "Everlasting Hope Never Ending Pain" through a compilation album "Ticket to Ride". Benefit from this album fund the construction of Bandung's skate park. This single brought them to the new era of Burgerkill, when at the beginning they were much inspired by Oldschool Hardcore Band in creating music. Named it : Minor Threat, 7 Seconds, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Sick of It All, Instead, etc. But then, their music were influenced by more various kinds of music like Modern Metal and Newschool Hardcore which got faster beat and more aggressive. Energetic riff-power chords became a strong character of Burgerkill's music, and not to forget the guitar fill-in that made it totally catchy. These guys of Burgerkill never felt enough and always tried to gain more from all kinds of hard music that would be interpreted through every note in their pieces. That's what made them more mature in making music than before until it went into their second album.

Some of Mainstream Achievement were theirs, in example was Best Independent Band nominator for NewsMusik magazine in the year 2000. In early 2001, Burgerkill got PUMA (USA sport apparel) as their supported wardrobe to perform for a year. A year after, they got INSIGHT (brand of Australian clothing) as their supported brand in every of performances.

In the middle of 2003, Burgerkill became the first hardcore band that signed contract for the next six albums with Sony Music Entertainment, one of biggest major label in Indonesia. Then, at the end of 2003, they released the second album, "Berkarat". It was more progressive and fully skilled, to be compared with the first album. Their songs almost had no straight forward sound and simple moshpart that is usually found in other hardcore bands. In vocal, they kept it sounds depressive and dark, character of Ivan the vocalist became stronger and bold, it was about written mother language and distinct articulation in the lyrics. Meanwhile, from the music, Toto, Eben, Andris and their new guitarist, Agung, weren't afraid to explore more parts in music and expressed it that none of Indonesian heavy metal had done it.

A startled thing in the middle of 2004 for Burgerkill was they were chosen as "Best Metal Production" for the album "Berkarat" in AMI Awards, a prestige music achievement in Indonesia. It was unthought-of them to achieve such an award that gave them more responsibility and seriousness to prove another works in music.

While working on their 3rd album in early 2005, Toto decided to quit from the band which had been built with the other for 9 years. But the band had to go on, they reformed the band with placing Andris, that used to be the bassist as the drummer. They kept working for this album with help from an additional bassist. When they've finished working on their 3rd album, Burgerkill decided to sever the contract with Sony Music Entertainment that caused by no agreement reached in the album proceeding.

So guys...these kids always have a great spirit to keep blowing their power, and they finally released the 3rd album, "Beyond Coma And Despair" by their own label Revolt! Records on August 2006. This album was so deep and meaningful for all Burgerkill's personnel in each aspect: the sound, structure, and form of the music that was utterly different with their former albums. Heavier, explicit, and technically elements were presented in this album.

There are no ivory that isn't cracked, Burgerkill had a hugest grief in their career. Ivan, the vocalist of theirs past away in July 2006. He got inflamed brain that took the icon of hardcore music in Indonesia away forever. Without they even realized before, all the lyrics in the album described his condition at the time, it had personal and depressive plot that showed the ending journey of him. "Beyond Coma And Despair" was a tribute for Ivan Scumbag who had always been a good friend also brother that fully talented and dedicated with his amazing character in works. Burgerkill was in blues, but they were so convince to keep moved on and to make music that had been their lives for more than a decade, with brought up a new vocalist in the band. And after doing a long process of Vocal Audition, finnaly they found Vicki to be a new front man for the next chapter of their career.

They successfully did Java Bali tour to promote their album on January 2007. The ticket sold out showed how their fans felt very enthusiastic of Burgerkill performances. A written story wouldn't just enough, just wait their next surprises and listen to the new album, watch them play and feel how heavy metal totally unforgettable possessed you! BURGERKILL HARDCORE BEGUNDAL IN YOUR FACE, WHATEVER!!!

THE HISTORY OF HEAVY METAL 2

1988-1992

During the last years of Ronald Reagan's reign, when conservativism reasserted itself against the anomic search for meaning of a generation born into ideals it did not feel the nation upheld, the political conflict between these two forces heated up. Death metal, originally developed for the artistic vision that when death and horror are more real than individual moralization, people rediscover life, flourished, but also found itself under onslaught from gazillions of imitators. With the rise of Suffocation, a speed metal-influenced death metal band, the clones finally had reason to exist and so death metal exited in chorus of "me toos" as black metal rose from its ashes with a new sound and a less-tolerant ideology, just as the Soviet Union collapsed and the United States turned more liberal.

1993-1996

Death metal became a field of Suffocation clones, and bands increasingly turned toward either going "technical" to distinguish themselves, or assimilating themselves into mainstream styles like rock (Asphyx - God Cries), jazz (Pestilence - Spheres), funk (Mordred - In this Life) and punk (Pyrexia - Hatredangeranddisgust). At the same time, black metal rolled onto the verge of what would be the most popular style of metal to come from the underground, mainly because its primitive riffs and nocturnal melodies were part lullabye and part nightmare, apppropriate for an audience that was both aware of the decay of civilization but too disorganized to do anything about it. As soon as its popularity grew, especially with the release of that template for black metal from The Abyss, The Other Side, black metal too became inundated in imitators, although some late forming bands and middle era albums by classic bands helped flesh out its style and bring it to maturation.

1997-2008

[Heavy metal 1997-2008 is mostly people reliving the past, or mixing previous failed genres into metal to make something 'new' that is actually mentally and emotionally retarded, but they sell lots of it to low IQ people]

Since 1997, very little of vitality has occurred in metal. Black metal bands continue the style, either by attempting to expand traditionalism or "new" combinations made of black metal plus any number of already extant genres (some of the former are bad, all of the latter are stupid). Death metal continues with some absorption by metalcore and emo, which has created a queasily hybrid style that few fans of the older material want to hear, and many newer fans find too mixed for their tastes. What has radically expanded are the continuation of speed metal and neoclassical heavy metal, power metal, and the skipped generation descendant of thrash, metalcore, which reverses the thrash pattern by putting hardcore riffs into metal-style songs. The sub-genres are converging again by becoming more similar, which may enable newer acts to get more distance from convention and find a style in which writing makes sense.

THE HISTORY OF HEAVY METAL 1

Heavy metal music, born fighting, rose out of popular music in opposition to both the dominant culture and the rock counterculture. Its heritage was equal parts the heavy guitar rock that replaced the blues, progressive rock and the neoclassical sounds of horror movie music. Its name, composed of "heavy" meaning epic and having emotional weight outside the individual, and metal, meaning the gritty mechanical truth of reality, signified its sound and message: a wake up call to hippies and bourgeois listeners alike that reality is not the simplified, individualistic, pleasure-seeking consumerist illusion.

1968-1978
[Heavy Metal 1969-1978 started with proto-metal band Black Sabbath and expanded into a fusion of proto-metal and hard rock called heavy metal, but really a hybrid of rock and metal that became large in stadium rock, driving metal underground with Motorhead]

First bands like Blue Cheer demonstrated the distorted sound, then Iggy Pop and the Stooges brought proto-punk into the equation, then progressive rock bands like King Crimson and Jethro Tull expanded on the idea, and finally, Black Sabbath released the first heavy metal album in 1970, Black Sabbath. Following this, bands merged the Led Zeppelin style of Celtic folk-influenced hard rock with the Gothic horror movie soundtrack-influenced Black Sabbath, and created the first genre heavy metal, a rock hybrid which immediately began to typecast itself and drove the creation of underground metal with Motorhead.

1979-1987
[Heavy Metal 1979-1987 saw heavy metal split into the extreme version, 'metal', and the hard rock that would dominate the radio but be called 'heavy metal,' at the same time offspining Motorhead-inspired punk hardcore hybrids like speed metal band Metallica and thrash band Dirty Rotten Imbeciles]

Heavy metal became popular in the 1970s and got absorbed by the hedonistic, individualistic, pleasure-seeking culture of the time. This produced a type of stadium heavy metalish rock that sold well but lost sight of the artistic ambitions of the genre. At the same time, bands like Motorhead and the Sex Pistols were popularizing the punk sound that had intensified since innovators like MC5, Iggy Pop and Link Wray began experimenting with it in the 1960s. In response, the more alert heavy metal bands added more gothic and neoclassical elements to distinguish themselves from the fray. The fusion of these two threads, hardcore punk and neoclassical heavy metal, produced an explosion of genres, but only two, speed metal and thrash, matured directly.

At the same time, starting with the explosion of the most nihilistic and yet thoughtful punk band to date, Discharge, releasing Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing in 1982, new genres expanded in nascent form from 1983-1985. These were black metal and death metal, but they did not diverge into clearly distinct genres until later when the associations of death/deconstruction/structure and melody/Satan/emotion were established.

SERINGAI

Early 2002, Jakarta, Indonesia. After a year disbanding his legendary hardcore outfit for 10 years, vocalist Arian13 [Puppen, Aparatmati] and old time friends, drummer Kemod [from Bandung thrash grinders, Aparatmati] and guitarist Ricky [from Jakarta's finest hardcore band, Stepforward] founded SERINGAI ['grin' in Indonesian]. Fueled by a desire to play a blend between Motorhead, Black Sabbath, hard rock & metal influences, they began to jam together after bassist Toan joined. SERINGAI was already in the habit of constantly writing songs, and playing small gigs in Jakarta and Bandung. Anthem songs like Alkohol [Alcohol] and Membakar Jakarta [Burning Jakarta], are the crowd's favorites. SERINGAI became more popular and the shows were beer-soaked and the sing along, slamdancing, stagediving never stops. Shortly thereafter, Toan left the band, and was replaced by Sammy. The band recorded 9 songs including a cover of Black Flag's Jealous Again, and released High Octane Rock EP in 2004 in tape format on their own label, Parau. Many shows in support of the tape, and without proper promotion they have sold about 12.000 copies of High Octane Rock EP. They even got offered to write songs for local movie soundtrack, teenage flick Catatan Akhir Sekolah and horror flick 12:00 AM. Their fanbase grows bigger, and named themselves 'serigala seringai' or, Seringai's wolfpack. In 2005, the CD version is released. Fortunately, the CD version was highly anticipated, and with different and exclusive artwork, it has sold 2000 copies in just 2 month. This time, the CD was distributed by Off The Records/Universal Music Indonesia. SERINGAI now is gearing up for their debut full length that is going to be released in 2007.

PURGATORY

Any kinds of downfalls built these men even stronger and more optimistic in approaching their goal. Changes of members and performances brought them closer to perfection in improving their music, which obviously shown in their music and existence until now.

Purgatory had their debut in 1994 by releasing their first 6 (six) songs in mini album, ABYSS CALL. In 1998, Purgatory got their first contribution with their song SAKARATUL MAUT in a compilation called Metalik Klinik I, produced by Rotorcorp, which was also produced their album AMBANG KEPUNAHAN in the next year (1999).

Until then they improved them selves by adding turntable, sampling and one more vocal. In the end of 2003, this formation was established in album 7:172, featuring Eet Edane in a song titled PARANOIA, produced by ZR Production, with Sony Music Indonesia as the distributor.
